The highlight of our last day (following a walk around a local market) was a trip to the Maracana to see the local heroes Flamengo play league leaders Cruzerio. There were 40,000 at the match, so the stadium was about half full but the noise, the flares, the flags etc were brilliant. Flamengo went up 1-0 after about 60 minutes, to the deafening joy of the fans, then managed to let 2 goals in as they limped to defeat in a library like atmosphere. Ky asked why they were just walking at the end? No idea really – we never do that at Eastern Suburbs. The whole thing was great fun. Now for tickets to see Boca Juniors….

This is what you do when your team is winning. Attempt to burn down the stadium ;-)

So that was Rio, and that was Brazil. We had a ball. Now just 22 hours on a bus (it’s not all flashpacking) and we’re in Argentina.
